SHINE ON Exhibition a sellout for Darren Doye

Darren was one of six new artists at Pivotal Gallery to be included in the final group exhibition for 2009, 'Shine On'. Darren's work has been well received at the gallery, and all four of Darren's works in the exhibition sold prior to opening night, in fact three had red dots on them prior to the hanging of the show!

Darren Doye, Finalist at Agendo Art Prize 2009

Darren's entry for the Agendo Art Prize - Reluctant Sale

Artist's Statement:

The painting, ‘Reluctant sale’, is a response to the uncertain times now facing many Australians. Depicted is a caravan covered in Melbourne iconic imagery and an old tractor in a grass field. A real estate style ‘for sale’ sign is placed in the foreground, making reference to the economic impact on rural communities. A darkening sunset symbolises the end of abounding economic success and the approach of an uncertain period. As the caravan rusts in the field alongside the tractor, these images become remnants of a more prosperous era. The Melbourne iconography fades in the face of the grubby, corroded caravan like ancient memories from a life long forgotten.
